Why is a TIMS Card Required?
The Trekkers' Information Management System (TIMS) is a database co-managed by the Trekking Agencies' Association of Nepal (TAAN) and the Nepal Tourism Board (NTB). It is designed to ensure the safety and security of trekkers in the Nepalese mountains by tracking entry and exit dates, emergency contact numbers, and routing.
In the event of natural disasters (like snowstorms, earthquakes, or landslides), the TIMS database is the primary tool used by rescue coordinators to locate missing hikers and launch search operations.
